Dressing the Part of a Gentleman and Embracing Change
When i was a young guy, 19 or 20, i had a girlfriend, one job working as a lifeguard and another working behind the bar in a nightclub, and I was training in MMA and grappling.
But I had no clue.
Then came the magical day when one of my buddies left out a copy of GQ magazine. I had a little money, and recognized that perhaps my dress and grooming weren't as up to date as it could be, so I wanted to see what the best-dressed minds in print had to sell me.
There it was all laid out: How to tip a tailor, what a "break" in a pant leg was, what patterns and colors did and did not go together. and then some amazing tid bits that weren't even fashion-related, like the "sophisticated lover" series. Evidently the "sophisticated lover" can remove all his clothing with one smooth movement of his arm.
This GQ had just answered questions I had, questions i didn't even know i was searching for the answers for, and questions every man should ask. I began thinking laterally for a change; sometimes white socks aren't the best choice, like with black shoes. sometimes oversized clothing makes you look silly, especially if you're in good shape. Sometimes girls are trying to pick YOU up (especially horny older "girls" at 2 a.m. in a dark nightclub).
It was 1999 and the world was a shiny new place to be. I felt a step above, just as i had a couple years earlier when i had switched from boxers to boxer briefs.
Change is good. Move the furniture in your apartment around. Get a new air freshener for your car. Date a different type of chick. Try a different position with YOUR chick. Try boxing if you've always played tennis. It's all just diversion, so try a different diversion.
